Sorry for the wind. I ordered 7-9 MPH winds and I was given 14-17 MPH winds. With all the changes to YouTube I am not fully sure what to write in this description. I am not even sure most of you read this anyways.

Video: The Windham Project: I still don’t think Atticus likes this rifle very much Part: 31,918

The Windham Project GM9 Review

We got the Gemtech GM9 in this week to play around with and ended up putting it on the Windham Project. Somehow this project seems to be never ending. I know there are some big things coming out of Windham this year and I am really contemplating getting a .224 Valkyrie barrel made just for this project. Hmmm, maybe I should just bite the bullet and get this gun SBR’d and take it on new adventures.

Video: Range Build PT. 2 – Adding A Champion 66% IPSC AR500 Plate

Screen Shot 2018-03-04 at 4.38.34 PM

Today I am reinstalling my Champion AR500 steel plate at the GEARS range.

As you can see this backstop isn’t the biggest and it really only has room for the two plates and one paper target stand. In the coming months we will be expanding the backstop to include a pistol plate bay as well as extend the overall length to include more rifle rated steel plates.

The link below is about the steel plate and the warnings.

GemTech Integra 300 Blackout Upper – The Hearing Safe Review

I have not made my final decision on if I like the .300 blackout or not… This is one caliber that I think I need to shoot another 500,000 rounds through before I can decide. I guess I am just going to need to review more .300blkout guns.

In all seriousness this upper is pretty cool and now that Lancer has released a .300blackout AR mag we can get high reliability feeding from subsonic rounds.

If you haven’t heard about the awesome company that is Silencer Shop Authority here is a link to their website.

Article: MY New Holster – CRAFT HOLSTER

Back at the end of 2017 I was contacted by a company called Craft Holsters asking if I was interested in a review with them. I checked out their site and decided to get a holster for my Remington R1 1911 Enhanced. I have always liked carrying my 1911 as 90% of the time I am more worried about wildlife over the dangers of a bad man. So I am not worried about printing because if a hog can see the outline of my pistol normally they just give up and throw themselves on the spit and we have roasted pig for dinner.

So, while Craft Holsters sent me a holster, my opinions are my own and I was not paid to write this review.

I did not do my due diligence before they shipped the holster so I was extremely surprised to find that the holster was coming out of the Slovak Republic. This really has nothing to do with the holster but it was to me just an interesting side note.

I don’t know that you can call these specs but here is a little more info on the holster.

The Open-Muzzle IWB (Inside Waist Band) Holster
Comes in:
Black or tanned leather,
Right or Left handed,
Holsters range from 1911s to HK to Walther.
W/ a price at or around $65 USD.

4 O’clock carry position

Double stitch construction

5 Year warranty

Made by Falco Holsters

I opted with a Tan (I have had bad experiences with black staining my pants), Right handed model with “AJ” (my initials) embossed on the holster.

Breaking it in

On their website they have a Leather Break-in & Care page to help you if you have never used a leather holster before.

I have been carrying it for months (not daily but a few times a week) and I am finally at a stage where the leather is more comfortable and the gun is easier to draw.

On the same page as the break-in instructions, they show you how to care for the holster if you get scratches or if it needs to be cleaned.

Final Thoughts

Men don’t have purses but we can still be fashionable with our holster selections.

This holster does take time to get broken in and as long as you have patience and take simple care of it, I believe this Holster will last you for years.

Go check out Craft Holsters and if you buy something, tell them Atticus sent you.

Press Release: CMMG’s Newest ANVIL

Boonville, MO – CMMG has announced the release of its all-new MkW ANVIL XLR2 chambered in 6.5 Grendel. Featuring a 22-inch medium taper barrel, this new 6.5 Grendel is capable of delivering a knockout punch, even at longer distances out to 800 yards.  The rifle includes:

  • 22-inch barrel with 1:8 Twist for maximum long-range accuracy
  • Geissele Automatics SSA 2-stage Trigger
  • Fully Ambidextrous CMMG Charging Handle and Safety Selector
  • CMMG SV Muzzle Brake and RML15 MLOK Hand Guard
  • Magpul Moe Pistol Grip and PRS Stock

“The 6.5 Grendel is a great round. It has very minimal recoil. It is also flat shooting out to 500 yards and beyond. It’s great for hunting medium-sized game such as deer and pigs, and best of all, you can find ammo for it that is relatively inexpensive. In building the ANVIL XLR2 with a 22-inch barrel, along with some of our other finest components, we designed this rifle to help shooters achieve the best possible results with this caliber,” said Chris Reinkemeyer, CEO of CMMG.

CMMG’s MkW ANVIL is a mid-sized AR rifle platform that is uniquely engineered to easily handle calibers with large casing diameters and significantly high bolt thrust. The most defining feature of the ANVIL is CMMG’s unique POWERBOLT design, which allows the rifle to utilize a modified AR10-sized bolt for increased durability. This is important because large-diameter cartridges such as 6.5 Grendel would require material to be milled out of a standard AR15-sized bolt in order to function – resulting in a thin, fragile bolt face. The POWERBOLT design allows the ANVIL to take 6.5 Grendel, and many others, to their full potential.

The MkW ANVIL is built on an AR10-sized frame with the upper receiver shortened by three quarters of an inch to minimize weight and increase ergonomics. Although the frame is based on the AR10 platform, the magwell on the lower receiver has been uniquely designed to accept standard AR15 magazines. This allows the rifle to utilize the durable AR10-sized bolt with calibers such as 6.5 Grendel, which have a case diameter that is larger than a 5.56 NATO. The result is a mid-sized AR that delivers superior durability while minimizing weight.

Each MkW ANVIL in 6.5 Grendel ships with one 10-round magazine and is backed by CMMG’s Lifetime Quality Guarantee. For those who already own a CMMG MkW ANVIL in .458 SOCOM, CMMG will also offer 6.5 Grendel upper receiver groups that will be compatible with any MkW ANVIL lower.

The 6.5 Grendel caliber was developed by Arne Brennan, Bill Alexander, and Janne Pohjoispää and introduced in 2004 by Alexander Arms. The design of the 6.5 Grendel intended to create a cartridge capable of functioning in an AR15 platform while simultaneously providing superior long-range accuracy and energy upon impact.

Since its introduction, the 6.5 Grendel has proven to be an effective round for long-range shooting in both hunting and tactical situations. Bullet weights range from 90 grains all the way up to 130 grains, making it a diverse cartridge for a variety of applications.

The MkW ANVIL XLR2 in 6.5 Grendel is available in the following configuration:

Caliber:  6.5 Grendel

Muzzle:  CMMG SV Muzzle Brake, Threaded 5/8-24

Article: Shot Show 2018

Well, it is that time of year again, SHOT SHOW 2018. I am very excited, as I am every year, for the show. I wanted to talk a few minutes about the State of GearsofGuns as a whole and what 2018 might hold for us.

State of GearsofGuns in 2018

I first want to thank all of you who have been subscribing to the YouTube channel. We saw a 700%+ increase in 2017 over 2016 in new subscribers.

I have finally moved to a ranch where I have land to shoot on. This will enable me to bring more videos and content that I had previously had access to.

I am really excited to share that I will be doing more real world testing with firearms and gear in 2018. I have been given the ability to hunt hogs. So I will be able to test gear that might be more suited towards the hunting community. With that being said, I will not be changing the channel or website to include hunting. I will just be using the hunting to bring you more information about the firearms, gear and ammunition that we are using.

I am changing my internet provider so that I can release more content such as written articles. As it stands right now I am extremely limited to how much data I can use to do research and upload content. Anyone living on satellite internet knows the plight.

SHOT Show 2018

If you are unfamiliar with what SHOT Show is, here is a little info and stats.

SHOT Show stands for Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade Show. It is an industry only trade show so that media, buyers and the like have a chance to meet with other members of the industry to see new product.

Buyers may set up purchase orders for 2018 to sell in their stores and there are quite a few classes offered. As a member of the media we are invited to come out and get press content for 2018 as well as meet with the manufacturers who supply the products for our reviews.

The day before the show is called Industry Day at the Range (formerly known as Media Day at the Range). This is a range day where media and buyers alike are invited to test out select products.

The remaining 4 days we have in Las Vegas is dedicated to the trade show. This is where we get our videos and specs of the cool new stuff we are hoping to show you in 2018.

If you haven’t already subscribed to our YouTube channel, you can click the link below and it will take you right to our page. The last thing I have to recommend is that after you subscribe you click the bell icon next to the subscribe button so that you get notified of our content first!

Thank you again for all of our followers and friends and we can’t wait to bring you coverage of SHOT Show 2018!

See you soon!
