Press Release: Mossberg® Celebrates Centennial with Launch of MC1sc™ Handgun

89001 - MC1sc - Extended Magazine - Profile - White Background - LARGE

NORTH HAVEN, CT – In celebration of the company’s 100th Anniversary, O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc., is announcing the release of a full-featured, 9mm concealed carry handgun: the Mossberg MC1sc (subcompact). Coming full circle from the company’s first firearm design, called the Brownie, a 22 caliber, four-shot “pocket pistol,” Mossberg has incorporated 100 years of engineering expertise in developing this superb concealed carry handgun. The MC1sc is available in five initial 9mm offerings: the standard MC1sc and an optional cross-bolt safety version; two standard offerings with sighting systems, choose from TRUGLO® Tritium Pro™ Night Sights or a Viridian® E-Series Red Laser; and a Centennial Limited Edition with a production run limited to 1,000 commemorative models.

After 100 years in business, Mossberg has grown to be the 6th largest U.S. firearms manufacturer, and remains dedicated to innovation, with over 100 design and utility patents to its credit. The MC1sc reflects three years of development and new patent-pending ideas in combining the most highly-desired features in the subcompact market with Mossberg’s innovative approach to design. Important features in a subcompact handgun are size, weight, caliber and carryability; and the MC1sc delivers with its overall length of 6.45 inches; recoil-managing weight of 19 ounces (with empty magazine); and barrel length of 3.4 inches in the popular 9mm chambering. Other desired features include two single-stack magazines, a flush 6-round and 7-round extended; glass-reinforced polymer frame; and suggested retail price of $421 for the two standard models.

Dv_shjWX4AURmRx

Innovation is what sets this subcompact apart from the competition. The MC1sc features Mossberg’s Clear-Count™ single-stack magazines. Constructed of a transparent, lubricious polymer compound, the magazines offer low friction and high wear-resistance, while providing quick at-a-glance assessment of the number and type of rounds loaded. The magazines also feature easy-to-remove floor plates and high-visibility followers. Each model comes with a flush 6-round and extended 7-round magazine. The MC1sc has the revolutionary, patent-pending Mossberg STS™ (Safe Takedown System), which unlike competitive products, does not require the user to pull the trigger to dissemble for routine cleaning or maintenance. Rounding out the innovative design is an aggressive patent-pending Mossberg signature grip texturing, added palm swell and grip angle (similar to a 1911) for a more confident, firm grip.

Dv_siPzWkAEY-37

Standard features have not been overlooked in the design of the MC1sc. The slide is constructed of stainless steel with a DLC (Diamond Like Coating) finish, providing for reduction of slide friction and wear resistance. Aggressive, multi-angle serrations provide for ease of slide manipulation. And the slide is topped with dovetailed-mounted, low-profile white 3-Dot sights. The durable frame is constructed of a glass-reinforced polymer which provides high impact and chemical resistance with high tensile strength and stiffness. The barrel, constructed of stainless steel, also features a DLC coating and 1-in-16 twist rate. The MC1sc trigger has a flat profile and integrated blade safety; short, tactile reset; reduced overtravel; and has a 5 to 6 pound pull weight. The smooth take-up combined with the flat trigger face offers an improved feel and clean, crisp trigger break. Trigger guards are also oversized for ease of access and comfort. All MC1sc models have a reversible magazine release, located behind the trigger guard, and there is also a frame variant with a reversible cross-bolt manual safety available.

Dv_sjAPX0AEWSw9

As a factory option, you can choose from MC1sc™ models with two sight systems. TRUGLO Tritium Pro Night Sights feature a FOCUS•LOCK ring for faster focus combined with a quick U-notch design providing outstanding sighting in low-light shooting conditions or complete darkness. The trigger-guard mounted Viridian E-Series Red Laser is specifically designed for the everyday conceal and carry owner, providing a powerful red laser for rapid target acquisition.

Dv_sjzVXQAQSYU1

In celebration of Mossberg’s anniversary, a MC1sc Centennial Limited Edition will be available, limited to a run of 1000 units with sequential serial numbering. Features include 24 karat gold accents engraved on the slide; Titanium Nitride-finished barrel and metal small parts; and special serial number.

O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc. opened its doors 100 years ago in March of 1919 with the vision of designing and manufacturing quality sporting firearms at affordable prices. Continuing this tradition, Mossberg is proud to introduce the newest member of its family, the MC1sc handgun. MMR First look

Today we are checking out the Mossberg MMR Tactical rifle w/ Vortex optic. I think this is an awesome AR because it doesn’t force you to go out have spend more money just to go to the range. most people already are looking at vortex for the optic and this just means the cheap red dot market is go to need to up their game to compete if more companies do this for entry level rifles.

Video: Mossberg Shockwave First Look

We picked up a Mossberg Shockwave a few weeks back and after working with this firearm just for the short amount of time I have found that I want this as my new Ranch gun.

The size of the gun plus the fact that my ammo options are plentiful makes this gun great for everything from snakes to mountain lions to the occasional pirate looking for your tractor rum stash.

This is a first look only and I will be publishing a full review a little later on this year after the ranch is set up and we have the range built enough to start full reviews.

Press Release: Mossberg® Introduces 590A1™ and 500® Compact Cruiser® AOWs The New Generation of 12 Gauge Sub-Compact, Pump-Action NFA Firearms

North Haven, CT – O.F. Mossberg and Sons, Inc. is pleased to offer new sub-compact NFA firearms, based on its time-proven 12-gauge 590A1 and 500 pump-actions. Classified by the BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) as AOWs (Any Other Weapon), the 590A1/500 Compact Cruiser AOWs require a $5 tax stamp for transfer, as well as the required NFA transfer paperwork. Two 12-gauge, 3-inch sub-compact versions are available with all of the standard features of the 590A1/500 platform that millions worldwide have selected for personal defense and in service to our country.

500 Compact Cruiser

The Compact Cruisers are built on Mossberg’s legendary 500 action, which passed the rigorous testing required to meet or exceed U.S. Armed Services MilSpec 3443 requirements; the only shotgun manufacturer to pass these endurance, accuracy and quality tests. The 590A1/500 AOWs are designed for smooth, reliable operation and feature non-binding twin action bars; positive steel-to-steel lock-up; an anti-jam elevator; and dual extractors. Their lightweight, anodized aluminum receivers provide for added durability and for ease of operation, by right or left-handed shooters, the Compact Cruiser AOWs have Mossberg’s universally-recognized, ambidextrous top-mounted safety.

590A1 Compact Cruiser

Both the 590A1 and 500 feature the ATI®T3 pistol grip, constructed of reinforced polymer and designed to absorb recoil energy before reaching the shooter’s hand. Less felt recoil reduces shooter discomfort and the time required to get back on target. The T3’s non-slip textured finish provides for a positive grip. Adding to the shooter’s comfort and ease of cycling, the Compact Cruiser AOWs have contoured polymer foregrips with a durable, webbed strap. The foregrip can be folded down, assisting in recoil reduction, or folded up against the magazine tube. Both the stock and foregrip feature a non-reflective black finish.

The 590A1 Compact Cruiser AOW (51664) has a 10.25-inch heavy-walled, cylinder bore barrel with front bead sight; convenient cleanout mag tube with 3+1 capacity; metal trigger guard; metal safety button; and anodized aluminum receiver with Parkerized steel finishes. The 500 Compact Cruiser AOW (51697) features a 7.5-inch cylinder bore barrel with front bead sight; 2+1 capacity; durable anodized finish on receiver; and Parkerized finish on barrel and mag tube. MSRP: $910 – $980.

Now Mossberg delivers its legendary pump-action reliability in a convenient sub-compact package. For more information on the 590A1 and 500 Compact Cruiser AOWs, please visit www.mossberg.com or your local Mossberg dealer.

Nikon Monarch 3 6-24×50 SF Matte BDC Review

I have been provided the materials needed for this review. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

I had no clue Nikon made sport optics prior to going to my first SHOT Show. I only knew Nikon as the company who had made my last 3 digital cameras and outside of that I really didn’t know anything else.

The Rifle and Scope Combo

I am not a distance shooter, but I enjoy the time spent practicing. With that said, I do not at this time, see a reason for me to spend $10,000 on a rifle and optics because I don’t shoot farther than 400 yards.
I just need a good bolt action and clear optic that will let me see 400 yards. I have mounted this Nikon Monarch 3 6-24×50 SF Matte BDC on my Mossberg ATR .308 which came with a inexpensive optic. The scope that came with the Mossberg was okay and worked out to 200 yards but it just was not a good scope for anything past that.
I wanted a scope to replace the old one and let me ring the gong at a distance.

In the Box

Nikon does not want to just give you the normal scope and paperwork. They want make sure you, the consumer, get what I like to call: the happy meal.
Open the box and be happy to see: Monarch 6-24×50 Side Focus Matte BDC, Nikon sunshade, Nikon low-profile adjustments with caps, target-style high profile knobs with caps and tapered easy grip knobs.
This means the scope comes with the inclusion of two additional sets of turrets.  One set is a high profile (tall) turret for target and tactical shooters, (it includes the appropriate size high profile turret caps). You also get a wider style turret, which gives the shooter more real estate to make quick adjustment (the wider turrets do not come with caps).

GearsofGuns Monarch3 review

(Scope not shown due to already being mounted to the rifle)

The Testing

While I had wanted to send this scope on an Elk hunt on the Wyoming/Colorado Border. We did not have the time to do this before writing the review.
We did not put this scope through any durability testing outside of the normal bouncing it gets inside the pelican case in the bed of the trucks on the dirt roads.
The scope stayed zeroed in every time we pulled it out of the case after driving to the range.

Bullet Drop Compensator Reticle (BDC)

  Nikon-bdc-reticle-Full

I like this reticle. Shooting a .308 bolt action using this scope made it easy to shoot at multiple targets at different ranges.

The Turrets

If you have not spend much time behind a tube scope, the turrets on the scope are how you adjust for windage and elevation. The benefit to a scope with turrets is that it allows the shooter to zero the rifle to a distance (We will say 100 yards for the sake the explanation) and then reset the turrets MOA markings to the zero mark so you can always return your scope back to the distance you had it zeroed in for.

imgres

The turrets are not mushy. Each 1/8 inch click is positive and audible making for very noticeable adjustments.
Price
This scope is $699.95 on Nikons’ website, but you can find it online for around $660. The price might not be what a newer shooter would want to spend for their first rifle. For someone who knows how to shoot at longer distance and is looking for a quality scope this price isn’t going to break the bank.

Overall Thoughts

Nikon has pleasantly surprised me with a clear, easy to use and affordable scope.
I was very impressed with how clear the glass was. I would say that it is fairly close to the Leupold clarity I have in the multiple scopes I own of theirs.
The scope has three different style turrets for different types of shooters which is a big bonus in my book.
The quality of the scope meet the expectation set by the price.
I cannot speak to shooting past 400 yards but to that distance I can say this scope was clear and crisp.

VIDEO TUESDAY!!! TAOFLEDERMAUS Experimental Shotgun Rounds

TAOFLEDERMAUS back at it working with his experimental 12G shotgun shells. I do not advocate that ANYONE mimics or tries what he does with testing these experimental rounds but I do think it is an interesting thing to watch. Something I would personally love to see is the inside of that Mossberg barrel. He has shot some rather strange items through it and I am curious how it has stood up to that.
