Video: CMMG MK AKS13 First Look

Cmmg MK47 AKS13

We are really excited to take the CMMG Mutant for a test spin and see how it fairs up against an AR as well as an AK.

In this video we look at the size of the CMMG Mk47 (7.62x39mm) bolt carrier group up against an AR-15 style Bolt Carrier Group chambered in 7.62×39. We also look at a BCG that is chambered for .308 (7.62x51mm)

The CMMG MK47 charging handle has it downfalls. We show you the size difference and how we come to that conclusion.

Stay tuned as we bring more videos and reviews of this mutant rifle.

Repost: GEARS and the X-15

X15 Drum Mag and the X25S Drum Mag

Yesterday we looked at the XPRODUCTS X25S for Video Tuesday which sent me back to when we had first become friends with James and the awesome Team over at XPRODUCTS.

As you can see below we have been working with them since before they dropped the S in XS-Products and I stand by my first review of the XPRODUCTS X-15Size: I live in the great state of Texas where I am not limited on how many rounds I can have in my magazine.  I own 30 round magazines and up, which can be a problem if you are sighting your rifle in on a lead sled but I found that the X-15 works great for that and I don’t have to change mags if 10 rounds wasn’t enough or if you are sighting in a number of ARs.”

After that review came out, someone laughed at me for the sighting in comment, saying if you need 50 rounds to sight in a rifle you are the problem. Lets face it, how many of us have sighted in our rifle and said “hey, I have shot my 10 rounds to get sighted in now I don’t want to shoot anymore”? Once the rifle is sighted in, thats when the real fun starts.  So why wouldn’t you loaded up a full 50 round drum for the “after party”?

What is your take on the over 30 round mags on the market?

Shooting The XPRODUCTS X-25 Drum Mag

XPRODUCTS X25 Drum Mag

Out at the range this past weekend, Tanner and I had to get some trigger time with my Windham Weaponry R16FSFST-308 Rifle and the XPRODUCTS X-25 Skeletonized Drum Magazine.

3 Years of Experience

We have been working with XPRODUCTS for 3+ years now and I can only say good things about them and the products they make. They make some of the toughest and beefiest drum magazines I have seen on the market. They do it at fair prices too.

Worth the Price

The X-25 comes in at around $350. When you first put any of their mags in your hands for the first time, you can feel they aren’t rinky-dink plastic mags.  You are not going to have baby these mags.

A Fair Comparison

You can buy a Hyundai (20 round SR-25 magazine) and say that is all you need in your life. Hey, the speed limit is only 65mph so why would you need a Ferrari LaFerrari (X25 drum mag)? I think we all know the answer… BECAUSE IT IS AWESOME!

Cannon Fodder

The X-25 or any of the other products in their line up are built to last and handle anything you can throw at it. And hey, in a fight, if 50 rounds isn’t enough, you can just lob it in as canon fodder!

Video Tuesday!!! Vltor: The True Stock Options

Today we look at 6 Vltor stocks in Black, FDE/Tan and Foliage Green. Vltor sent the IMOD and the EMOD stocks for us to test on the #WindhamProject.

I love the fact that the EMOD stock has the battery compartment for my CR123s.

The IMOD stock is smaller so it has less of a foot print in your safe or hard case but still has the beastliness of the EMOD to handle anything you throw at them.

The #WindhamProject is a Windham Weaponry RMCS-4 AR which is chamber in 5.56, .300BLK, 7.62x39mm, 9mm and .22lr. We have grabbed some of the most awesome parts of the gun industry to help us better customize this rifle and show you how to can turn this rifle from something awesome to something EPIC and drool worthy at the range.

How Does the OSS Work, Exactly?

If you haven’t checked out our first post about the OSS Suppressor Click here

The goal of a suppressor is to obviously conceal flash and sound, but how is this done?

The concept is simple, but applying the concept into application is more difficult.

The suppressor system needs to slow the expansion of gas from the round for as long as possible. It needs to be able to transfer all of the accumulated energy from the explosion of the round to the surface area of the suppressor.

The OSS Suppressors are specifically engineered to maximize the advantages of signature reduction without sacrificing the weapon systems reliability and durability.

The O.S.S. (Operators Suppressors System) Suppressor

Perator Suppressor

The patented O.S.S. Flow Through Technology uses deflectors and coils to control the gas expansion through the system and pulls gases away from the bore-line.

Gas expansion throughout the Baffle VS the OSS

wwb_backpressure

Naturally, consistent heat will degrade and destroy a firearm, faster than any other element.

A weakness within the baffle suppressor is that no matter the material, be it inconel, stellite, stainless steel, or titanium, the energy from the explosion of a round is transferred to the surface area of the baffle, which results in high and prolonged heat.

The baffle suppressor heats up to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit whereas the Flow Through Suppressor is 700 degrees Fahrenheit. As seen in a torture test on a fully automatic rate of fire on a Daniel Defense brand AR platform 5.56 rifle.

Heat comparisons of the suppressors

Why-Were-Better-Thermal-Signature

Thermal temperature rises rapidly with semi auto fire and rises even faster with full-auto fire.

The OSS is said to provide superior heat management by allowing the gas and energy transfer to occur at a natural rate, which will travel a total of 40″ before exiting through the muzzle.

This results in 70% lower temperature than the baffle suppressors and a faster return to normal temperatures after firing.

This is how the Operators Suppressor Systems work.

Video Tuesday!!!Blackhawk Cutaway Omega Vest and TacProGear Review

Blackhawk and Tacprogear

Sometimes you just need a big knife and tactical vest. This is one of those times. Like I said, I do really like the gear. However, as someone who was never military or a three gun shooter, I don’t really care all that much to wear MOLLE, unless I have a need for it. This vest has been coming in real handy while reviewing the #WindhamProject.  We are firing thousands of rounds through this rifle. The MOLLE vest makes it easier to keep mags closer for speedier reload time.

Something I failed to mention about this vest, is that is it mainly made with a mesh body.  That makes this vest breathable. This is nice in the Texas sun when you are wearing it for hours on end.

I also keep my Leatherman MUT on my vest, which you can see on the left hand side of the screen when looking at the vest.

The video below is of the OPSGEAR guys using the cutaway system.

The Operators Suppressor Systems (O.S.S.)

“110 year old suppression technology does not perform for modern operators. The next generation in suppression is here.” – Operators Suppressor Systems

OSS Banner

OSS-Flow-Through-Suppressor-pictures-002

An Intro to Suppressors

Since we are on the topic of suppressors, let’s shed some light on the new suppressors in the market with a quick simple introduction.

The suppressors I am talking about is the patented Generation V Flow Through Technology, made by Operators Suppressor Systems located in Murray, Utah.

Introduced at ShotShow 2016

First introduced at ShotShow 2016, the Generation V Flow-Through Technology, is a patented state of the art suppressor.  I believe this will change how suppressors will be built for the years to come.

The Elite

Right now there are two types of OSS suppressors in the market. The first type is the Elite.  The Elite is built for a fully automatic rate of fire. The Elite can withstand six cycles of 8 thirty round magazines with 5.56 ammunition on full auto. This suppressor is forged to withstand the extremes of full-auto fire.

OSS BPR and OSS SRM

 The Helix

The next suppressor in the market is the Helix.  The Helix is designed and built for tactical, professional, hunting, and sport shooters demanding the best reduction. The “plug and play” also makes it convenient for you to fit on the barrel.

5.56-Helix-Carousel-Image-4-1-1200x600

Calibers

The available calibers in Elite, and Helix are;

5.56

7.62/30 Cal.

The .338, 50 Cal. and “Machine Gun” calibers are still being tested.  These calibers are scheduled to be released later this year.

The Helix and the Elite suppressor designs are both exclusively designed with the patented Generation V Flow-Through Technology and the rights are owned to Operators Suppressor Systems.

Stay tuned on how these suppressors work!

Cases & Safes

Atticus and the Gears Crew wrap up the look back at Shot Show 2016 with the photos of safes and gun cases.  Thank you for taking a look back with us.  Hope you enjoyed the scenic tour.  No photos can begin to show the enormity of this show. Again, these photos are best of the ones taken and are meant to show the variety of what is to be seen at Shot Show and are not necessarily a reflection of our editorial support.
