SHOT Show 2017: Day 2 Video

SHOT Show stands for Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade Show, It is held at the Sands convention center at the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas NV USA. It is a private INDUSTRY ONLY show. As media, we are invited to come out and see all the new firearms in the Industry so we may bring you the viewer new content.

DAY TWO

This quick 5 minute run thru of what we saw today.  Includes a quick interview with Dead Air Armaments.  I heard that if we wanted to see every booth in this show we could only spend one minute 18 seconds in a booth.  Bad news guys!  We aren’t going to see every booth.  But trust me when I say that we are spending time with the good guys.  Gotta go, lots to see……….

CGI: 9mm Rifles

This week on Cool Guns of The Internet: Today’s post is brought to you by The 9×19mm Parabellum and the interesting rifles that shoot it. If you have a firearm you would like us to post in next weeks CGI all you have to do is send us a picture of your firearms via email, at “pictures@gearsofguns.com” and we’ll post it! But tell us what the firearm is and for more flavor, tell us a story about the gun like a funny hunting trip, or a sentimental story about the gun! Make it as detailed as possible! Matthew and The AAC Ti-Rant 45

AAC Ti-Rant 45

Hey guys, Matthew with Gears of Guns.

Today I want to talk about the AAC Ti-Rant suppressor. I decided to go with this one because of the price point.

Ti-Rant .45

Tax Stamp

At $500 plus the $200 tax stamp, I couldn’t resist. Obviously, I needed the proper form four and a 6 month wait, but then, she was mine.

Multiple Calibers

Overall build quality is very nice. The suppressor looks well made and is made of strong materials. A nice feature I like, is the interchangeable pistons to mount this up to multiple caliber handguns or rifles chambered in a handgun round.

The AAC Ti-Rant also has a fixed barrel spacer for fixed barrels.  You can change the point of impact (POI) by pulling on the suppressor and rotating it.

AAC Piston

Cleanable

This suppressor can be broken down fully to clean the baffles and tube. A really nice feature is that this adds next to no weight to the front of the gun, making it feel pretty well balanced.

Quiet or Quieter

With claims out there that the suppressor runs at 133db dry or 125db wet with 5cc of gel, I think shows how this suppressor works very well.

Why Ti-Rant?

Now some might ask why did you chose the Ti-Rant over say the Osprey from SilencerCo? Simply put, price point. At the time, I couldn’t spend the extra $250 for the Osprey.

Ti-Rant System

Also, the Osprey is nice that it doesn’t block the sights. But the AAC has the ability to change the POI. So you have two features and it boils down to what feature appeals more to you.

A Joy

Overall, a great suppressor and it makes shooting a joy instead of a chore.

Press Release: SilencerCo NEW HARVESTED – BORDERLANDS VIDEO

Silencerco borderlands video

NEW HARVESTED : BORDERLANDS VIDEO

During World War II, American soldiers stationed off the Barbary Coast of Northern Africa discovered a native sheep species, known as the aoudad. Recognizing their potential as a game animal, they shipped them to Texas; aoudads quickly proved to be an extremely challenging hunt for multiple reasons. Their keen sense of smell, hearing, and alertness to danger, combined with their capability to retain water from sparse vegetation and survive long periods of time without it, gives them the ability to live in rugged, dry habitats that are often too harsh for other animals.

We had the rare opportunity to scout the high desert terrain with UFC® Featherweight Fighter Chad Mendes in search of this elusive creature. Equipped with suppressed rifles and accompanied by expert guides, we set off to reconnect with the wilderness and harvest some challenging game.

How Does the OSS Work, Exactly?

If you haven’t checked out our first post about the OSS Suppressor Click here

The goal of a suppressor is to obviously conceal flash and sound, but how is this done?

The concept is simple, but applying the concept into application is more difficult.

The suppressor system needs to slow the expansion of gas from the round for as long as possible. It needs to be able to transfer all of the accumulated energy from the explosion of the round to the surface area of the suppressor.

The OSS Suppressors are specifically engineered to maximize the advantages of signature reduction without sacrificing the weapon systems reliability and durability.

The O.S.S. (Operators Suppressors System) Suppressor

Perator Suppressor

The patented O.S.S. Flow Through Technology uses deflectors and coils to control the gas expansion through the system and pulls gases away from the bore-line.

Gas expansion throughout the Baffle VS the OSS

wwb_backpressure

Naturally, consistent heat will degrade and destroy a firearm, faster than any other element.

A weakness within the baffle suppressor is that no matter the material, be it inconel, stellite, stainless steel, or titanium, the energy from the explosion of a round is transferred to the surface area of the baffle, which results in high and prolonged heat.

The baffle suppressor heats up to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit whereas the Flow Through Suppressor is 700 degrees Fahrenheit. As seen in a torture test on a fully automatic rate of fire on a Daniel Defense brand AR platform 5.56 rifle.

Heat comparisons of the suppressors

Why-Were-Better-Thermal-Signature

Thermal temperature rises rapidly with semi auto fire and rises even faster with full-auto fire.

The OSS is said to provide superior heat management by allowing the gas and energy transfer to occur at a natural rate, which will travel a total of 40″ before exiting through the muzzle.

This results in 70% lower temperature than the baffle suppressors and a faster return to normal temperatures after firing.

This is how the Operators Suppressor Systems work.

An Intro to Suppressors

Since we are on the topic of suppressors, let’s shed some light on the new suppressors in the market with a quick simple introduction.

The suppressors I am talking about is the patented Generation V Flow Through Technology, made by Operators Suppressor Systems located in Murray, Utah.

Introduced at ShotShow 2016

First introduced at ShotShow 2016, the Generation V Flow-Through Technology, is a patented state of the art suppressor.  I believe this will change how suppressors will be built for the years to come.

The Elite

Right now there are two types of OSS suppressors in the market. The first type is the Elite.  The Elite is built for a fully automatic rate of fire. The Elite can withstand six cycles of 8 thirty round magazines with 5.56 ammunition on full auto. This suppressor is forged to withstand the extremes of full-auto fire.

OSS BPR and OSS SRM

 The Helix

The next suppressor in the market is the Helix.  The Helix is designed and built for tactical, professional, hunting, and sport shooters demanding the best reduction. The “plug and play” also makes it convenient for you to fit on the barrel.

5.56-Helix-Carousel-Image-4-1-1200x600

Calibers

The available calibers in Elite, and Helix are;

5.56

7.62/30 Cal.

The .338, 50 Cal. and “Machine Gun” calibers are still being tested.  These calibers are scheduled to be released later this year.

The Helix and the Elite suppressor designs are both exclusively designed with the patented Generation V Flow-Through Technology and the rights are owned to Operators Suppressor Systems.

Stay tuned on how these suppressors work!

Notable mentions:

The crew shot 960 meters for the first time with a .308 and rang a 16″ gong.

Silencerco had a .45-70 lever action suppressed, which was fun.

We used the Geissele AK enhanced trigger and made it our new favorite AK (sorry but this trigger is amazing and I need it for all of my AKs).

Otis Tech mentioned they are redesigning their line of cleaning kits. (You know me and how much I love collecting new and exciting cleaning kits.)

That one booth that had mints and they were tasty….

Kriss is talking about releasing new calibers such as the 10mm, 357SIG, .40S&W and .22lr.

My burrito was fairly tasty, minus the fact they put all the guac in the bottom and it wasn’t mixed in. (sad face panda).
