One of the requirements from SOCOM for the SCAR-17 was that the rifle had to eject the spent 7.62x51mm brass the same as the M16. This meant FNH had to redesign the magazine.

At this time the DoD and SOCOM are currently purchasing all of the magazines for these rifles from FNH. When asked why, our source from FNH told us that they were not replacing any rifles but just adding to the available weapons they currently use.

At this time the availability of the propriety magazine is not available for civilian purchase due to the demand by the DoD and SOCOM. FNH hopes to have them back on the market within a few months time.

The SCAR-17S comes with only one 10 or 20 round magazine.
