This cutaway was sent to us by a reader way back in 2011 (see post here)
This week on Cool Guns of The Internet:
Today on Cool Guns of the Internet we are looking at this rare cutaway of a Colt XM rifle that is full auto. If you have a firearm you would like us to post in next weeks CGI all you have to do is send us a picture of your firearms via email, at “pictures@gearsofguns.com” and we’ll post it! But tell us what the firearm is and for more flavor, tell us a story about the gun like a funny hunting trip, or a sentimental story about the gun! Make it as detailed as possible! And let us know who you are if you want photo credit.
The correct designation would be XM16E1 or M16A1. It definitely isn’t an early XM16E1, as the Edgewater buffer has been replaced with the Sturdevant buffer, the bolt carrier isn’t chrome-plated, the three-prong flash hider has been replaced with a birdcage model, and the 30rd magazines were not standardized yet.
The M15 rifle was a heavy barrel M14 derivative. It was declared obsolete before it even reached production.
