Dead Air Wolverine AK Suppressor Review

Dead Air Wolverine PBS-1 Suppressor Review - GearsofGuns.com

The Dead Air Wolverine

The Dead Air Wolverine was one of the most surprisingly enjoyable suppressors I have had have the chance to review. I have suppressed 7.62×39 rounds before but never any subsonic ammo. I just didn’t think the round was really worth suppressing. Boy was I WRONG. I have been interested in reviewing the Dead Air Armament Wolverine PBS-1 since 2017. Unfortunately, I just had other firearms I wanted to suppress before I got to my AK. I think I should have reviewed this sooner, as I loved the set up we used in the review.

About the Can

I have a few wants in a can:

  • Multi caliber use
  • Full Auto Rated
  • Decent price (for the calibers)
  • Easy to use (cleaning if it is a pistol caliber)
  • QUIET
  • Low Weight

Well, looking over this can, we can see it does hit the notes I was looking at. The can is rated for 5.56 up to .300WIN. It is full-auto rated so if you have a binary trigger or just a fast finger you aren’t going to worry. The can comes in so many calibers and thread pitches. So the cost being $799 (plus $200 tax stamp) means you are getting a can that can mount to almost all of your guns. But is it easy to use? Well, is it direct thread, so you are not going to hot-swap as fast as you might with a QD mounted can. The can is designed for the AK, which as we all know, is not always the truest threads to bore alignment.

I will tell you that if you run supersonic rounds, you should still wear ear protection. If you get yourself some Brown Bear 196GR subsonic ammo, you will never want to run your AK without it being suppressed again.

Bore Alignment

If you are not as familiar with AKs and their threads, I will share a few things.

One: if you get this suppressor you should invest in a bore alignment rod. This is a rod that fits in the barrel of the AK and suppressor and shows to the flight path of the round assuming your barrel is not completely worn and the rounds are keyholing (if this is happening to you, it is not safe to run a suppressor and maybe time to just get a new US-built AK.

Two: My Century Arms RAS47 MOE has 14x1mm LH threads. This might not be the case for you, depending on where your AK was built, so before you go and buy the Wolverine Suppressor it might be best to get your thread pitches.)

The Video

I had fun shooting this video and honestly, I should have purchased more than 140 rounds of subsonic ammo. We could only show 40 subsonic rounds, due to timing in the video… Sorry. I had planned on taking the suppressor apart in the video and showing how to change the pistons. I clearly forgot and didn’t remember my plans until after we shipped the can back to SilencerShop.com, who sent us this can for review.
