Kel Tec KSG and KSG 25 Review

The Kel Tec KSG Review

We had reviewed the Kel Tec KSG once before, a few years back, but I never felt I really finished that review. Since Kel Tec released the newer KSG 25, I wanted to shoot them side by side.

In our reviews of the KSG, we picked up the SilencerCo Salvo 12 Shotgun Suppressor to mount on both shotguns. However, I found that the barrel nut is a real PITA to remove. Personally, I wish that KEL tec offered a loaner program for the socket to remove this nut as you need a (literal) blow torch to get the nut off. Since I don’t want to go through all the same processes that I did with the KSG, we never added the salvo 12 to the KSG 25 (YouTube hates firearms being taken apart so I did not show this in the video).

 The KSG 25

First, I want to say that for the size of this shotgun to the number of shells (12 + 12 +1 2”3/4 =25 shells), it is awesome.

I was asked when picking this gun up from the shop if I could run mini shells through the KSG family. You can, which means now you are nearly doubling if not actually doubling the number of shells you can carry in the shotgun. Why would you want to do something like that? Because it is fun! Going out to the range and being able to fire off 40 or so shells without reloading or having a mag that hangs down to the subbasement is just awesome. It isn’t this super long firearm either. In fact (I wish I had photographed this but) it is shorter than my Mossberg 500 Flex.

Final thoughts

Will you be seeing another KSG review coming from us? Probably. They offer a few more models that I want to look at, such as the KSG Compact and the KS7. Both of these are fewer shells but might be more of the bullpup shotgun that fits you.

I love the KSG. Plain and simple, it is fun to shoot because of the number of shells it carries. The KSG 25 is more fun because how many people do you know that can fit a whole box of shells in their shotgun without a MASSIVE drum mag? I would like to see the KSG in a semi-auto form. But that is just me daydreaming while writing this review.
